Barrie woman launches shapely business October 11, 2007

Anita Wright is on a mission to free women from unrealistic, unhealthy beauty standards. “The tide is turning. Women want to feel good about their bodies again,” says Wright, who operates a new fashion business, Shapes.
“We’re seeing it in Montreal, where super-skinny models have been banned from the runways at Fashion Week, and we’re seeing it in commercials that celebrate natural beauty. Women are fighting back – reclaiming their right to be, and enjoy, who they are,” she said.
The Barrie entrepreneur is founder of Right Shape Inc. and the Shapes program, a new system that transcends fad fashions and encourages women to feel good about their bodies again. She said Shapes is designed to teach women what styles, cuts, fabrics and colours work best with their figure type – without having to drop a fortune on a new wardrobe.
Shapes launched last week at the Ottawa Woman’s Show, where hundreds of women consulted with Wright and got their Shapes body profile. Women need to know, it’s their genes, not their exercise routine, that determines their body shape, says Wright. “No amount of dieting will change you basic shape and women shouldn’t want to change it,” says Wright. “Shapes will teach women to recognize and love their bodies as they are. “All women, even models and actresses, are one of four shapes - either a pear, a rectangle, an apple or an hourglass,” said Wright. “The only difference is that models and actresses have professionals advising them how to dress to suit their bodies.” Wright says that through Shapes, all women can have that professional advice.
At in-home “Shapes Parties,” a Shapes consultant analyzes body types and teaches women how to dress to maximize their figure. “Women are so fed up of going to the store, taking six outfits into the change room and finding they all look awful,” says Wright. “Then they think: ‘I’m fat. I need liposuction.’ But, in reality, those clothes were just cut for a different body shape. This is not about fat – it’s about wearing clothing that makes you feel great.”
